Ladies, let's light up your space!

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

Ladies, when it comes to college living, it's really important and not to mention,-really fun-, to decorate your dorm the way you see fit. A really incredible way to make your dorm room your own is to find the perfect lighting that matches your personality and allows you to express yourself.

When it comes to choosing lights for your dorm, it's really important to remember that most colleges have restrictions on certain types of light fixtures for safety reasons. Candles are widely prohibited due to the risk of becoming a fire hazard, for example, and any other types of light fixtures must be UL approved.

What does "UL approved mean?" Any type of electronic device or lighting fixture that you own must be tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories, a global safety certification company that is approved to perform appliance testing by the U.S. federal agency known as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. All colleges will require permitted electronics and light fixtures to have the UL seal of approval.

Though there are a lot of restrictions on the kind of lights ladies can keep in their dorms, this doesn't mean you can't find cool alternatives that are both safe and within university guidelines. Here at Dorm-acor, we can help inspire you with quick and easy DIY lighting ideas, and find lighting products that cater to your personal preferences. Stay tuned for some fun and of course, safe, DIY ideas for your dorm room.
